The UAE is a global business hub with various options to set up a company. Entrepreneurs can choose between cost-efficient setups or premium setup demands based on their requirements. However, knowing the proper setup depends on your business model, goals, and budget. This blog explores real-life scenarios to help you empower your decision and may include gradual insight into how we assess your needs.

How We Analyze Your Needs

At RAS Corporate Advisors, we emphasize understanding your specific business needs. To recommend the best setup, we typically ask a series of questions, including:

What is your business plan? Are you consulting, trading, manufacturing, or engaged in e-commerce?

How many visas will you need? Whether you are a solopreneur or plan on building a big team, visa needs differ significantly.

Is there a specific jurisdiction you are interested in? There are particular reasons some clients may prefer to register under DIFC or DMCC.

What activities will be undertaken under the license? Will it be trading, e-commerce, consultancy, or some specialized activity?

How soon will you need the license? Fast-track processes are sometimes available in free zones, which could take longer under other circumstances.

By targeting these questions to discuss with you, we will be able to ensure our recommendations reflect your goals, budget, and timeframes.

Scenario 1: Setting: When Budget Options are Suitable

Example 1: A Consulting Business

A consultant operating in the UAE worked virtually, needing just a sole-purpose bank account for accepting payments.

Our Suggestion: A RAKEZ SPC or Creative City Free Zone license starting at AED 5,500 offered the complete solution, including the options for consultancy, general trading, or e-commerce licenses.

Scenario 2: An Import-Export Trading Business

The client has been importing goods for distribution primarily in South Asia and Africa through Dubai ports. There were no other needs for working with Dubai outside the visa and bank account requirements.

Our Suggestion: We suggested a general trading license issued under RAKEZ or Creative City, which was available at a minimal cost.

For another Dubai presence, Clients needing a Dubai address were referred to Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) or Meydan Free Zone, starting at AED 12,999.

Scenario 2: Need for Mainland Setup

Some businesses require prime locations with a relative physical presence; thus, mainland setups become necessary.

Example: A Medical Center or Restaurant

Our client required prime location real estate for direct Client Interaction to launch a medical center or restaurant.

Our Suggestion: For these models would require a Mainland License in Business Bay, Sheikh Zayed Road, or Dubai Marina, where flexibility and market access allow any customer-driven business to operate effectively.

Scenario 3: Appropriate Use of Premium Jurisdictions

Some businesses prefer one jurisdiction over another for international acceptance, infrastructure, or sectorial benefits.

Example: DIFC, DMCC, JAFZA, or DWTC companies

Clients with specific plans for DIFC, DMCC, or JAFZA sought tailored solutions to enhance their credibility.

Solution: Our service offerings were aligned with their vision, and the strategic goals were achieved even under premium investment requirements and with appropriate support.

Difference between free zones of Northern Emirates and Dubai

Northern Emirates Free Zones: Free Zones in the Northern Emirates will offer less costly options at Sharjah, Ajman, or RAKEZ, starting from AED 5,500. Named to provide a virtual office address, these zones are mainly meant for start-ups and SMEs.

Dubai Free Zones: Premia options with registration charges starting from AED 13,000. Free zones: Dubai Silicon Oasis and Meydan, which offer the privilege of a virtual address in Dubai.

Is a Virtual Address Legal?

Yes, a virtual address provided by a free zone is entirely legal. Typically, this means a desk option or shared space worked on by the free zone. They are legally valid for:

  • Applications related to opening a bank account
  • Official correspondence
  • Business licensing and operations

They provide a good face for your business without the physical office overheads.
